Sew Over It Betty Dress made using our Ariana Red Viscose

Friday 1st May 2020
Becky from Notes From The Sewing Room

Hi everyone, Becky here from Notes from the Sewing Room. I was delighted to be asked to review a beautiful bright red viscose fabric from Material Girl Laura. The fabric is really pretty and has a beautiful drape to it, so it was difficult to decide what to make with it. What did I make? I'm a big fan…

I am an old-fashioned girl at heart and love fabrics with that vintage touch. Or anything with a hint of days gone by and especially with those soft muted colours of yesteryear. If you know me or…

Simply Sewing Magazine Matilda Dress

Wednesday 5th February 2020

Its funny what catches our eye isn't it? Take this pattern for instance, it had been in my stash for absolutely ages, completely flying under my radar and waiting hopefully to be unleashed from the packet. It wasn't until the lovely Donna, aka The Modern Maker on Instagram, had posted a gorgeous leopard print version she had made, that I noticed this lovely pattern. Its everything I love in a dress. Its midi length, long sleeved and the expandable waist courtesy of the fabric drawstring belt…

Simple Sew Juliette Dress Hack

Wednesday 4th September 2019

I had wanted to make the Juliette for a long time and had agonised over what to make it in. I had so many shortlists fabrics for it but in the end I settled for our Animal Print Wine Viscose Twill. When using Viscose I have recently switched to using Microtex needles instead of Sharps needles as they seem to eliminate the risk of getting any…

Deer and Doe Myosotis Dress by Vicky aka @sewlittlesparrow

Saturday 6th July 2019

Hi Folks I'm lucky enough to be friends with the lovely Laura and along with a few other ladies we had been on an eventful day out to a sewing meet up back in January (I won't bore you with the full story why it was eventful but it involved the RAC!) It was my turn to drive and after dropping off the rabble following a day of fabric shopping I noticed a bag left on the back seat. Laura had bought along a piece of fabric to show to one of the group but had left it in my car. Thankfully she…

Vogue 9197 made using our John Kaldor Blush Scuba

Sunday 7th April 2019

I came across this amazing pattern on line and was also inspired to go ahead and make this wonderful dress by the amazing Sewing Blogger Riva La Diva, who made an amazing Scuba Version. I absolutely love Scuba, it is an amazing fabric to wash, wear and sew with. I chose this vibrant John Kaldor Blush Floral Scuba as…

My Dressmakers Ball Frock Vogue V9253

Wednesday 27th March 2019

Vogue V9253 made using our Lady McElroy Serengeti Vogue Linen Look Viscose! Gosh this Dress has got to be the most deliberated make I have ever made. I have chewed the ears off of several of my friends about it including my Husband, who might I add is amazing at helping you to make a decision as he does not hold back with his critique! So much so that I'm considering advertising his services. LOL! Let's talk about the fabric choice now. What a rollercoaster that's been! I had settled on making it in the Lady McElroy Foliage Canopy Crepe, I failed to take the required amount out of…

Papercut Kyoto

Saturday 16th February 2019

The Papercut Kyoto has been burning a hole in my Pattern Stash for ages now. I bought it some time ago at a show inspired by one of our lovely customers Nicky who had made a gorgeous version from one of our fabrics. The pattern instructions are simple and easy to follow and tracing it is super easy with the black on brown pattern paper. The construction is straight forward and it comes together quite quickly. I had carried out a lot of research on line prior to choosing my fabric, looking at how different fabrics worked with the pattern. When this…
