My Stripy Coco
Tuesday 29th May 2018
I had day dreamed about this Tilly And The Buttons Coco Top long enough before I got going with it so I thought I better get a move on and get one done!
The Yarn Dyed Light Blue Striped Jersey I used for this top is the most gorgeous blue. Its soft and lovely and washes a dream. I've washed it several times already. On its first outing on a breakfast date with my lovely sewing friends Sew Little Sparrow and Button and Pip I promptly dropped egg all down it. Can't take me anywhere!
I love this pattern. It's great. So easy to follow and the fit from the sizing on the pattern is brilliant.
Matching stripes can be challenging however with a combination of advice from Tilly And The Buttons Stretch book and The Great British Sewing Bee From Stitch To Style book its not so intimidating if you are new to it.
Just take your time when cutting out. My main focus is always on being able to match the arms, shoulder and side seams. Its great visually if you can match at least one of the stripes where the front and sleeve seams are but its not possible to match them all and you know what its not a problem if you don't because you will end up with a great top regardless.
Use lots of pins when you are matching stripes and I always like to baste first so that if I need to do it again its not an issue removing your stitches. I do like to overlock all my edges even though it isn't essential with jersey. It just feels a bit more polished when I do this.
So my verdict on this top is I need more of these! This fabric was a dream to use and has been an absolute dream to wear!
