Thank You Teacher
Wednesday 25th July 2018
So this year I decided I would make my Daughters Teacher a bag to say thank you. I have already made the same Teacher a Tote Bag previously that she uses everyday for School but this time I wanted to make something that she could use for chucking a couple of things in for trips out to the pub etc.
She prefers darker colours so I decided on our Flamingo Foliage Cotton Canvas. Its a fabric that it is lovely to sew with and is perfect for bag making. I lined it with a plain canvas I had in my stash from years ago but I could have lined with anyone of my poplins. I always interface poplins just to give them a big more substance when bag making.
I had purchased some wooden handles some time ago for bag making which in hindsight are not the best so I'm currently sourcing some better ones that will hopefully be available on the site soon!
The bag is constructed of 4 squares of fabric. I made the inner bag and added a patch pocket and the outer bag I made the handle inserts using the patch pocket method and designed a template that I hoped would be big enough to house the handle with enough wiggle room to actually be able to sew it on. There wasn't much science involved, it was pretty much guess work but I got there!
I then put the inner bag in the outer bag and sewed around the top to secure both bags together.
I'm absolutely over the moon with the finished bag. I just hope my Daughters Teacher likes it and it stands up to the test of time!
Thanks for reading.
